In 2010 we were commissioned by a yacht building company to create a Mosaic Tile design (glass mosaic) that represents the identity or symbol (seahorse) of the yacht.

The material and design
We have proposed glass mosaics for this project because this design will be applied to the wall in the master bathroom of the 27-meter-long motor yacht and for this reason lightweight material comes into question. The original seahorse pictures were sent to us by the yacht building company. Before we start to create the mosaic image, we always make a drawing for the best conversion of the image to mosaic image. On such a drawing are all kinds of notes about the colors and details that simplify the creation of the mosaic.

2 Cm x 2 cm Glass Mosaics
The glass mosaic is 4 mm thick and each has a size of 2 Cm x 2 Cm. It would also be possible to create this Mosaic Tile Design project from 1 Cm x1 Cm mosaics. Since the design is not so complex we have chosen 2 Cm x 2 Cm mosaics. Mosaics with a larger surface are used so that they find a greater opportunity to adhere to the mosaic adhesive. In this case, it must also be remembered that during the start of the yacht engine a large vibration occurs, which plays a major role in the mosaic size.

We would like to introduce you a Retro Mosaic Tile design project that we created about 10 years ago, for a living room wall in a villa in Cyprus. The end result was just beautiful! Partially shiny Mosaic Tiles, which made themselves visible from matte colored mosaics. And that in a style from the 60’s. But how does such a process go? How long did such a custom made Mosaic Tile design project take?

The design, i.e. the shape and colors, that was used in this project is actually one from the 60’s. We didn’t really add anything great, that was the customer’s request. We just sat down together to find the best colors that could be used in this project. It is very important to find tiles that are also well suited for the mosaic process. For this we, as Art Studio, selected the colors according to the gloss and matte and prepared for our client, a part as a demonstration model mosaic. The goal of this preliminary process is to show our clients how the final visual result will look like.

Each custom Mosaic Tile design project prefers different skills that played a very big role in the final result. Since such a project is made with pure handwork, it is also our main task to show our clients where there might appear visual differences during the implementation. For this reason, it is important for us to show our clients the final result that will follow through the implementation. This way we can plan changes at the very beginning.
Production time
The time needed for the design and production of such a Mosaic Tile Design (Wall) is about 0.5 m2 / day. In other words, it took us about 3 weeks to set up such a project. The application takes less time, about 1 day for gluing to the wall and 1 day for grouting.

In this project we sat down at the table with our client and closed our eyes, as we usually do with our clients who want to add something to their house walls that didn’t exist before. It’s a great bathroom in a beautiful loft with with a large blank wall directly across from the shower. Since the shower itself was separated with a large glass wall, you were looking directly at that wall while you showered. The idea came from our client that it could be exciting to be watched by a mural. They then decided on a picture which we then transferred in color to the wall.

Of course, street art is not meant for bathroom walls but we wanted to bring the visual effect of spray paint on the concrete wall into the interior in this case the bathroom. And in order for this mural to really look street art style visually, we used, on the already existing concrete wall, the stencil art technique.
Since 2014, we create upscale wall murals that serve the interior design and give the spaces a new atmosphere. The final result of a wall mural in the interior is always exciting because we create them with the stencil art technique.

The mainstay of the wall mural design process is that we first prepare the stencil layers in our art studio in Jesteburg. The size does not matter. Depending on your wishes, either our artist can paint the stencil on your wall or you can also commission a painter who has already gained experience with stencil art layers. However, our recommendation is that the second step is continued by our artist.

Graffiti has been around since the Stone Age. People want to express themselves freely. Street art has evolved a lot since then and nowadays dominates the art world on the streets and sometimes even in galleries. Together we will dive into the world of street art to see what other possibilities there are besides the classic spray can to do street art works quickly and efficiently. We discover different street artists from Shoreditch and Brick Lane in London and their way to their own artistic identity. We create street art in their style and with their production techniques and also talk about the difference between art and vandalism. Space Invaders as mosaic paintings, stencil art with stencils, poster art with homemade paste and tagging: street art without spray paint is much more creative!
The use of stencils is a widely used technique in the street art scene. The method is fast and efficient, and the artwork is reproducible. Learn the abc of stencil art: You will design a Multi Layer Stencil made of letters by the British street artist Ben Eine as well as a Double Color Stencil with a detail from a Michelangelo painting.
This course is primarily about getting to know techniques of well-known street artists such as Banksy and to be able to try them out yourself – quite legally. We will deal with space invaders made of ceramic mosaic tiles, poster sticker art and stencil art. The course instructor Ayhan Keser, artist and connoisseur of the scene, will give you a lot of background knowledge about StreetArt in addition to the practical instruction.

Which glass mosaic is more suitable for my project?
There are many types of glass mosaics on the market with which we could create your mosaic tile design for your wall. The most used glass mosaics are Vitreous Glass Mosaics and Stained Glass Mosaics. Mosaic tile designs made of glass mosaics can also be grouped into 3 types in terms of design.
