In the last 20 years we have been commissioned two times for an Urban Mosaic tile design, which has brought new experiences to our Art Studio. The design and production of a mosaic design for an urban project is of course, in contrast to interior projects, a whole different world.
The design Process
The design in terms of both visual and technical details is extremely important in Urban mosaic tile design projects. The weather conditions, the traffic be it cars, trains or pedestrians that can cause vibrations must be well calculated to produce a sustainable mosaic project. This is actually similar to mosaic tile designs in swimming pools where the joint width and the bonding of the mosaic sheets play a major role as the water in the pool exerts a great pressure on each individual mosaic.
The right mosaic for Urban Mosaic Designs
Can any Mosaic be easily applied to an Urban project? The answer is no! There are certain approaches that help in the selection. All these issues/questions have a huge impact on the life of the Mosaic tile design that is planned for the Urban. These are questions like:
Will the Mosaic tile design project stand up under the sun?
Will the artwork be exposed to snow and rain?
Is there rail traffic nearby?
Will cars drive on it? (For flooring projects)
Will pedestrians walk on it? (For floor projects)
Will people be able to touch the artwork in general?
We are here to serve you!
But you don’t need to worry, because you are in good hands in our Art Studio as far as the technical and visual is concerned. Due to our many years of experience, we possess the answers to all these questions and we are aware of the measures that need to be taken in order to design and create a sustainable Urban Mosaic Tile design!
It is simply the great energy that a wall, decorated with mosaic tile design brings to your clients, in your bistro or restaurant. A mosaic mural created by hand from hundreds or thousands of small mosaic pieces has a completely different effect than a simple wall paint or a print hanging on the wall. It makes your clients feel valued in your bistro or restaurant, through this investment in the mosaic art form, because you, as the owner, could have painted the large wall with a simple wall paint. This is not to say that a bistro or restaurant that does not have a mosaic tile design on the walls does not value its clients.
But considering the fact, it is a sign that shows what kind of value the owner of a bistro or restaurant gives to his interior and therefore to his clients. However, it is also clear that not every interior design concept is suitable for a mosaic tile design touch, which is perfectly okay.
Branding And Mosaic Tile Design – Wall
What does branding have to do with mosaic tile design on the wall? Actually a lot! A bistro or a restaurant has 2 good possibilities to make branding without permanent investment. On the one hand the good food, the good service and of course the location. On the other hand the interior design and – or maybe the exterior design. Of course, sometimes you can find very good food and drinks in weird places, but that doesn’t change the fact that in bistros and restaurants in good locations, a lot of attention is paid to the interior and exterior design. In short, it’s about places that talk about themselves! It simply helps the client to keep the bistro in mind. Of course, we must not forget that in front of large mosaic walls are also taken good photos and then shared on social media. No client takes a photo in front of an empty wall after a delicious meal.
The bistro with the large wall mosaic
We have experienced in the last 20 years that the large (up-scale) mosaic tile designs on walls that have been installed in bistros or restaurants have been talked about a lot. Some of our executed wall mosaic projects ended up so energetic that the customers of the bistro only said: “the bistro with the big wall mosaic”, and did not even know what the bistro was actually called. In the end, the goal is achieved. Your space will be recognized by the interior design, and will also be passed on to other potential clients.
We would like to give you technical information before you hire us for a Mosaic tile design project. You can have your Mosaic Tile design, for your wall, created at your leisure, as we have experience in all directions as far as Mosaic Tile design is concerned. Nevertheless, this could be classified into 2 groups. 1- Shaped Tiles (Handmade) 2- Pixel Mosaic Tile Design (Hand placed tiles)
1- Shaped Mosaic Tiles (Handmade)
Wall decorations made of Mosaic Tile Design can have very different visual effects. This is due to the production of individual mosaics that are usually formed by pure handwork to create a whole image. These days, new alternatives keep coming on the market that can be shaped with pure manual labor and the help of a mosaic nipper. However, the fact remains that the most commonly used main component of mosaic tile design for your wall or floor is either wall tiles, floor tiles, marble or different glass mosaics.
Comparison: glass mosaic and marble mosaic
Glass mosaics could then be classified into 2 groups, namely, Stained Glass mosaics and Virteous glass mosaics. The application of marble mosaics for your project also has visual differences. For one, your Mosaic Tile Design – Wall will look rustic and matte. Unlike glass mosaics, this is a huge difference as a mosaic tile design project created from glass mosaics is more glossy and brings more contrast to the visual play. It is always eye-catching and outstanding in terms of interior color balance. The bottom line is that both materials work well with a mosaic nipper. The biggest difference is just the visual (colors, gloss).
Comparison: wall tiles and floor tiles
We often create mosaic tile designs for walls with wall tiles, as they are very easy to work with an appropriate mosaic nipper. The reason for this is usually that they are processed only once in the oven during production. In this process, floor tiles are processed 2 times in a kiln and are then just not so easy to process with a mosaic nipper. But for this such floor tiles are suitable for mosaic tile design projects that are designed with “Art Nouvau style”. Of course, you can also use wall tiles for Art Nouveau style Mosaic tile design projects.
2- Pixel Mosaic Tile Design – Wall
Nowadays, Pixel Mosaic Tile design for walls is often applied as a creating process. In such creation process no Mosaic Nipper is needed because the Mosaic tiles are simply set in mold. This can be done by hand or with robots.
what you should now about Pixel Mosaic Tile Design – Wall
Pixel Mosaic tile design for walls is nothing but a pixelated image, where the pixels are replaced with mosaics. For this reason, it is extremely important where the mosaic tile design is placed, because the human eye needs a certain distance to recognize the image. The experience of the mosaic designer comes into play here because he must know exactly whether the mosaic tile design applied to the wall is recognizable by the viewer or not. Another issue that arises during the design phase is the size of the total wall space. The mosaic designer must edit the image desired by the customer on the wall on the computer with the help of different softwares to see if the image can be implemented on the surface as a mosaic tile design. In most cases, the image requested by the customer is rejected because it cannot be implemented as a Pixel Mosaic Tile design because the area is too small and therefore the image will not be recognizable.
How Grout color affects the mosaic
Without joints, a mosaic tile design on the wall or floor, unthinkable. It is because the joint holds each mosaic from 4 sides. Good and nice to know but what effect or rather what effect has the joint color on the whole? Very enormous I would say! Imagine that the joint width, depending on the application is between 1 mm – 3 mm. This means that for a Pixel Mosaic tile design created with 1×1 Cm, continuously, at every 1 Cm, 10 percent of grout color is incorporated. In other words, a 100 cm x 100 cm pixel mosaic tile design, the eye also sees a joint area or joint color of 10 cm x 10 cm. If the wrong grout color is selected or the grout color does not match the design, the pixel mosaic tile design will lose 10 percent of its visual impact and therefore its value.
Can it be done without joints?
The answer is yes and no. A gapless mosaic tile design to be applied in an interior Wall could be created without grout. However, such a production has two points that should be taken into consideration. On the one hand, it will be difficult to clean the mosaic. On the other hand, unfortunately, there is a possibility that individual particles will break free from the mesh or the wall.
After 20 years of experience, we are pleased to inform you that we can make different designs in any size for you in our Art Studio from different. We mostly use materials such as Ceramic Tiles, Glass Mosaics, Marble Mosaics and Special Handmade Mosaic tiles.
Big looks stronger
After having created numerous wall mosaic tile design projects in different interiors and exteriors, we can only say one thing: large murals created with the mosaic art form have an enormous impact on the viewer. We have experienced that afterwards it is talked about a lot and that such a wall design also contributes to the brand.
The restaurant with The Great Mosaic Wall
We have often heard how the mosaic design has become the highlight of a restaurant or bistro and has contributed greatly to its recognition. For these reasons, it is very important to find or create exactly the right visual design, which we will then convert – create for you in our Art Studio to a Mosaic Tile Design.
1×1 meter package to 2 x 3 meter Mosaic
As an example, we can show you this Mosaic Tile Design – Wall that measures 2 meters by 3 meters and decorates the wall of a restaurant. In reality, the packaging for this large wall mosaic was just 1 meter by 1 meter and had a thickness of 50 centimeters.

It is not uncommon that our client, does not want to have his Mosaic Tile design created from Glass Mosaic or Marble Mosaics or from tiles. Sometimes the colors do not fit and sometimes the visual. In such times, as an Art Studio, we have the ability to create mosaics ourselves to apply to your Mosaic Tile Design. The size is mostly 1×1 cm, 2×2 cm. However, we are able to produce round shapes.
In 2010 we were commissioned by a yacht building company to create a Mosaic Tile design (glass mosaic) that represents the identity or symbol (seahorse) of the yacht.
The material and design
We have proposed glass mosaics for this project because this design will be applied to the wall in the master bathroom of the 27-meter-long motor yacht and for this reason lightweight material comes into question. The original seahorse pictures were sent to us by the yacht building company. Before we start to create the mosaic image, we always make a drawing for the best conversion of the image to mosaic image. On such a drawing are all kinds of notes about the colors and details that simplify the creation of the mosaic.
2 Cm x 2 cm Glass Mosaics
The glass mosaic is 4 mm thick and each has a size of 2 Cm x 2 Cm. It would also be possible to create this Mosaic Tile Design project from 1 Cm x1 Cm mosaics. Since the design is not so complex we have chosen 2 Cm x 2 Cm mosaics. Mosaics with a larger surface are used so that they find a greater opportunity to adhere to the mosaic adhesive. In this case, it must also be remembered that during the start of the yacht engine a large vibration occurs, which plays a major role in the mosaic size.
We would like to introduce you a Retro Mosaic Tile design project that we created about 10 years ago, for a living room wall in a villa in Cyprus. The end result was just beautiful! Partially shiny Mosaic Tiles, which made themselves visible from matte colored mosaics. And that in a style from the 60’s. But how does such a process go? How long did such a custom made Mosaic Tile design project take?
Planning and design
The design, i.e. the shape and colors, that was used in this project is actually one from the 60’s. We didn’t really add anything great, that was the customer’s request. We just sat down together to find the best colors that could be used in this project. It is very important to find tiles that are also well suited for the mosaic process. For this we, as Art Studio, selected the colors according to the gloss and matte and prepared for our client, a part as a demonstration model mosaic. The goal of this preliminary process is to show our clients how the final visual result will look like.
mosaic crafts skills
Each custom Mosaic Tile design project prefers different skills that played a very big role in the final result. Since such a project is made with pure handwork, it is also our main task to show our clients where there might appear visual differences during the implementation. For this reason, it is important for us to show our clients the final result that will follow through the implementation. This way we can plan changes at the very beginning.
The time needed for the design and production of such a Mosaic Tile Design (Wall) is about 0.5 m2 / day. In other words, it took us about 3 weeks to set up such a project. The application takes less time, about 1 day for gluing to the wall and 1 day for grouting.
Smooth application Process
Through our experience we have accumulated over 150 Mosaic Tile Design projects in the last 20 years, will help execute a smooth Mosaic application process. Just imagine that the large wall mosaic is divided into numbered pieces and can be easily applied to any wall by your local tiler. The end result is irreplaceable as this mosaic project has turned into a handmade piece of art on your wall.
A cool mural on the bathroom wall? Is that actually possible? The question here is rather, why should that not be possible! It’s just cool to bring together different decorative elements from art history. Especially in places in your home where it is not expected. You can already assume that your guests will be amazed in the house because a bathroom decorated in street art style is not often seen.
In this project we sat down at the table with our client and closed our eyes, as we usually do with our clients who want to add something to their house walls that didn’t exist before. It’s a great bathroom in a beautiful loft with with a large blank wall directly across from the shower. Since the shower itself was separated with a large glass wall, you were looking directly at that wall while you showered. The idea came from our client that it could be exciting to be watched by a mural. They then decided on a picture which we then transferred in color to the wall.
Street art in bathroom
Of course, street art is not meant for bathroom walls but we wanted to bring the visual effect of spray paint on the concrete wall into the interior in this case the bathroom. And in order for this mural to really look street art style visually, we used, on the already existing concrete wall, the stencil art technique.
Since 2014, we create upscale wall murals that serve the interior design and give the spaces a new atmosphere. The final result of a wall mural in the interior is always exciting because we create them with the stencil art technique.
Why Stencil Art
There are only positive facts about creating wall murals with the stencil art technique. First of all, there will be no bad surprises on your wall (colors, shapes and size) because in advance the whole visual is designed on the computer and sent to you and the Stencil Layers will be processed only after your consent. So it is quite clear where what should be painted. The best thing about it is that wall murals that are created with the stencil art technique can be implemented very quickly.
Interior and Exterior Applications
Applications can take place on different walls in your home, bistro, restaurant, club but also in a yacht. Of course, it can also be painted on furniture e.g. on large cabinet doors or on any door. Since a wall mural is very light in weight, it can be applied to all kinds of wall surfaces.
The Wall Mural Design Process
The mainstay of the wall mural design process is that we first prepare the stencil layers in our art studio in Jesteburg. The size does not matter. Depending on your wishes, either our artist can paint the stencil on your wall or you can also commission a painter who has already gained experience with stencil art layers. However, our recommendation is that the second step is continued by our artist.
Which mural for my wall?
With us, you have a wide choice in terms of which or what could look good for a mural on your wall. It does not matter where in the house, restaurant or yacht this wall is located. Just send us an e-mail regarding your idea. For this we also need the dimensions of your wall and of course a photo of your wall would be very helpful. Then we can of course start with the wall design and schedule a video call to discuss the details.
Mural Design with spray paint or wall paint?
The choice of whether to design the mural on your wall with spray paints or wall paints depends on your taste. Spray paints give the mural a street art look because the paint from the spray can creates certain effects by spraying. Wall paints, on the other hand, have rather straight and clean color separations and look calmer from a visual point of view.
Marble Mosaics are recognized as an indispensable material in Mosaic Tile design. Due to its easy shaping, natural colors and historical antique texture, it is used very frequently in custom made mosaic tile design projects.
Color and Texture
Marble mosaics are formed in a completely natural environment. For this reason, their colors are also 100% natural. Strong red, yellow or cobalt or similar artificial colors are hard to find in the marble mosaic segment. However, we can use a wonderful green and its shades, flesh colors similar to red, in your marble mosaic design project. In addition to all these, we can add wonderful color transitions to your mosaic design project with wonderful white and brown tones.
During the mosaic design phase, it is important to remember that there are different types of marble and you should choose the one that best suits your project in terms of visual richness and technical aspects.
